Roland is a founding partner at MBaer Merchant Bank and has been involved in the establishment of the bank since the start.

He is in charge of Portfolio Management and is Chairman of the Investment Committee.

He is responsible for defining and implementing the investment strategy for both asset management and consultancy mandates.

Key professional milestones

Management of complex investment mandates

Before becoming a founding partner at MBaer Merchant Bank, Roland was in charge of the Multi-Manager Portfolio and Funds department at Bank Edmond de Rothschild (Suisse) S.A. in Geneva and Zurich. He was a member of the expanded Executive Committee at Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management in Paris and sat on various investment committees.

Responsibility for institutional investment funds

Roland has built up extensive experience and expertise on investment funds of various kinds in a range of roles over three decades.

Expert on alternative investments

Roland made his first hedge fund investment in 1990. In 1994 he joined the Julius Bär Group as a specialist in external investment funds, focusing on hedge funds and private equity.

In the year 2000, he moved to HSBC Republic in New York as Head of Alternative Investments.

Business owner

At the end of 2003, Roland set up his own asset management company, Basel Asset Management LLC in New York. The company subsequently expanded into Switzerland with the foundation of SterWen BAM AG. Roland sold the company in 2016.

  • Degree in Economics and Business Administration, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), School of Management and Law

Roland speaks fluent German, English and French and has basic knowledge of Spanish.
